The Bunga Tembusu house built allows the user an elevated view of the beautiful lush surrounding by KLD Architects. This house design paid attention to the Singapore’s climate without forgoing the visual and phenomenal transparency of the house. The big glass windows,high ceilings and double volume spaces and openings at all sides encourage ventilation. The connection between each rooms was connected by large glass windows and doors on the ground level. it allows the functional spaces to merge with the natural surroundings which makes visual delight. material choosen are engaging the Japanese concept of “wabi-sabi” with rough cut stone, Corten-Steel and re-conditioned old teak. The transition from the interior to the exterior spaces is seamless & effortlessly graceful as instead of definitive boundary. the different spaces are hinted at through the subtle changes in floor materials. – K2LD Architects

The Vivienda 19 House located in Pozuelo de Alarcon Madrid, created by Spanish architecture firm A-Cero Architects. The structure of this new house is made of clear volumes, straight lines and simples shapes. The house’s front is made of marble travertino and there are many windows in it. Both elements give a lot of lightness to the house. It has a 1.600 m2 surface and three floors consists of basement, ground and high floor. The garage and service spaces are in the basement, while the most public spaces are in the first floor. Bedrooms and more private rooms are in the high floor. A-cero has designed also a 80 m2 spectacular and geometric swimming pool. It harmonizes with the clean architecture of this A-cero project. – A-cero Architects

The Dublin based practice of ODOS architects takes a humanistic approach to their work by prioritizing the users functional needs, and their relationship to nature. This private residence features a refurbishment and extension of the existing farmhouse and stable complex in Ballymahon, Co.Longford. The 450 sqm. addition emphasizes elongated rooms with plenty of opportunities to view and connect with the surrounding exterior. Rich, warm wood clads the exterior facade as a high contrast to the surrounding buildings; this makes the home addition a place of interest as you approach the entry.Traditional Portland Cement was replaced with environmentally friendly Eco-CEM and the house boasts a renewable energy source in it’s high-efficiency wood pellet boiler which supplies the underfloor heating.- ODOS Architects

The Orb House created by Australian based architects Bojan Simic,inspired the dwellings of ancient Pompeii, created a tranquil introspective living environment based on the central courtyard typology around which all living, working and entertaining orbits. The building’s form and footprint is characterized by a curved central spine wall which defines two distinct zones – the ‘living’ zone within the rim and the ‘sleeping’ zone beyond. This defining rim provides interiors with a theatrical backdrop while creating intimate residual spaces externally.

Aspiring towards a future residential prototype the ‘Orb House’ adopts tried and tested methodologies from the ancient past – a ‘back to the future’ kind of approach. A monochromatic palette of materials and textures augment the minimalist geometry of the composition. Aspect and light are dramatically introduced via frameless thermal glass curtain walls utilizing commercial glazing technology. - Bojan Simic

This contemporary house situated in Tinbeerwah, suburb of Noosa in Australia and created by Queensland based architects Bark Design. This house contains two main interconnected, steel framed volumes for living and sleeping, perched high on the site to take in broad views of the Pacific coastline with the forested hinterland in the foreground. The main spaces step down and run with the natural topography, connecting in section via the double height living and northern pool deck space, whilst a separate ‘silver shed’ art studio projects out across the fall of the slope, creating a south lit, plywood lined space for painting, high in the treesTaking some cues in architectural language from the architects’ own studio, the house explores ‘Case Study’ ideas of expressing a legibility of construction, with simple clean spaces contained by a series of steel portal frames and glazing, in contrast with economic modules of lightweight sheet and hardwood chamferboard cladding. The house explores lightness, filtering natural breezes, layers of transparency and integrating indoor / outdoor spaces within dynamic patterns of light and shadow, being a simple frame to enable a contemporary lifestyle.- Bark Design Architects

The SGLight House located in Santo Tirso Porto, designed with small in minimalist style by GRAU.ZERO with project leader Sérgio Nobre. This small house has 240 sqm Gross internal floor area,the organization of space starts in the north wing of the house, a relationship between the house and an existing elementary school. Sought to break with some of the architectural forms of identification, especially outside windows that were used in the smallest possible number. Lighting/ventilation of rooms happens from individual small patios. The Singapore based architecture firm Dlab recently completed a modern and sustainable house reconstruction in Margoliouth Road Singapore. This projects retains the majority of the existing 2 storey bungalow on the site, followed a Western model with open landscape. In the new design, architectural firm DLab questioned the relevance of this model in the tropical Singapore context where the usefulness of the lawn is very limited. The architects searched for an alternative strategy for dealing with external and internal spaces that would make the garden a more livable area and allow it to positively affect the living spaces in terms of its cooling and regenerative properties. The existing house structure is retained and forms the largest solid volume which contains the family-oriented accommodations such as the Dining, Kitchen, Family rooms and children’s bedrooms. Three more pavilions were added to the eastern half of the site. The first houses the grandparent’s suite and master suite. This monolithic 2 storey pavilion is situated at the furthest eastern corner of the site to act as a counter weight to the existing house. The second is a double volume glass pavilion for the living room and is placed in between the first two pavilions. This space uses insulation glazing on three of its façades, allowing daylight to flood the room so that it is perceived more like a sheltered outdoor venue. The designers developed a system for the glazing that is composed of an outer layer of ceramic fritted glass and an inner layer of roller blind. In between these two planes, an inner pocket of hot air forms, which is released through ventilation slots at roof level. With the added advantage of cross ventilation, the effect is a surprisingly cooling space which benefits from the daylight and exposure to the garden without the detrimental effects of the heat. The third addition to the house is a partially enclosed garden courtyard placed at the centre of the house, making it the focal point of all the living spaces. The courtyard is treated architecturally like all the other rooms, with three sides of the space enclosed in glass and a staircase to the master suite cantilevering off its side wall. – DLab

This modern and stylish house created by Spanish architecture firm A-cero Architects in Pozuelo de Alarcón Madrid ( see another post of  Pozuelo de Alarcón house by A cero in housedesignidea.com). This house design in three plants, dividing its space in differentiated areas: a buried floor where is the facilities rooms, holiday room, movies room and a gymnasium with dressing room. The exterior walls are made of travertino Roman marble, solved in a system of ventilated front that it allows to put in value the aesthetic qualities of the natural stone, making use at the same time of technical qualities of this constructive system as its climatic efficiency and easy maintenance.

In most of the interior spaces the floors are finished in black granite, while in some points in the first floor the travertino marble is used too in order to give unit to the housing set. The first floor, where the access is located, developed in different levels separating different functions: garage, kitchen with several rooms like a larder, a cellar, a cleaning utensils room, office, service area with laundry, drying area and a safety room; furthermore, there is an area for the principal bedroom with its dressing-rooms, baths, gymnasium and swimming pool. The housing presents a closed face towards the exterior, solved with a series of concentric curved walls of natural stone that produce open spaces more intimate and private in its interior area.
