The Triangle House sited on the ridge of a hill with individual views towards the Oslo fjord between the branches of the surrounding pine-forest, and the corners of the neighboring houses. Designed by Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekte (JVA), the permitted aerial building lines define the perimeter of the plan and even the heights of the roofline.
The chosen exterior views are singularly framed by the window openings, precisely related to individual interior spaces. The importance of this relationship is underlined by the exterior wooden cladding which variations of pattern is based upon the size and positions of the windows. The interior is treated in a more fluent way with overlapping sequences of space and light in section and plan, closely related to the families everyday lifestyle. This duality of focal of exterior views and interior flow is a major theme of the building.
The triangular volume is cut into to allow for main entrances, and one corner is cut down in order to relate to the scale of the neighboring building. The color of the wooden cladding, traditionally stained with iron ore, blends in with the exposed rocks and stems of the landscape. The windows are placed in level with the cladding, at the surface of the walls, mirroring the surrounding vegetation. This gives a lightness to the façades in contrast to the massive volume and dark color of the house. The interior is clad with OSB-boards, the floors are cast in concrete and partly covered with sisal mats. The bathrooms are paneled with brushed aluminum panes and mirrors.
