Top Mahogany Birthday Gifts for 2013

Choosing birthday gifts seems to become more and more difficult with every year that passes. But if you’re stuck for ideas in 2013, I recommend giving away mahogany gifts. Not only are they fabulous presents to receive, it’s unlikely the recipient will have been given it before, so they’ll definitely remember your gift.

Here are some things that I think will make for great gifts this year.

Jewellery Boxes

I love jewellery, and I think most women are the same, so giving away a mahogany box where you can store your favourite items is likely to be well received.

You can find a variety of small mahogany chests that you can offer as jewellery boxes. The size you choose will obviously depend on how many earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings the person you are giving it to has, so I would have a good think about what their jewellery collection is like at the moment before picking a box.

Stationeryoxes

The person you are stuck for ideas for might not wear a lot of (or any) jewellery, in which case, getting them a box for them to put their trinkets in is probably not the best thing to do. But if you know that they spend a lot of time at their desks – and who doesn’t these days? – you could get them a stationery box instead.

These are great at storing paper, pens, rulers and other stationery items that are often left abandoned on the desk. Boxes certainly help keep everything much tidier, so they’re ideal if the recipient likes everything to be orderly or takes pride in their office. If you know they already have a Georgian-style or Chippendale mahogany desk, you’re on to a winner with this present, as these boxes look great with desks of this sort.

Mirrors

What you buy for a birthday present will obviously depend on who you’re getting it for and what your budget is. But if you know that a family member or a close friend has always wanted a mahogany mirror, 2013 could be the perfect time for you to surprise them with one.

There is a variety of styles of mirror frames you can choose from, so I would definitely recommend knowing what their tastes are before you go ahead with the purchase. What’s more, if they’ve ever spotted one they said they love in the past, I would try to find out what that looked like so you can find a very similar one. This way, you can be confident they’ll adore the mirror you give to them.

They may, for instance, love a Regency mahogany mirror as this will match the reproduction mahogany furniture in the hallway particularly well. Alternatively, they might like something a little more intricately detailed, such as a mirror with a mahogany swan feature at the bottom in the style of art nouveau.

Coat racks

Another great addition for a hallway is a coat rack, so if your loved one already has somewhere to place their jackets, this could be the ideal gift. If you’re not sure whether they do or not, you can make an excuse to pop over and see where you’re asked to leave your coat – or just have a quick look before you’re taken into the living room. Victorian mahogany coat racks are among my favourite, especially if you get ones that have hooks that are suitable for hanging hats and umbrellas, as well as jackets.
